FRIENDSHIP? FORGET IT!
Mei Tachibana has no friends—and she doesn’t need them! Ever since her “friends” betrayed her in elementary school, she’s sworn off friendship entirely. All it leads to is betrayal and heartbreak, and she’s well enough on her own. But everything changes when she accidentally roundhouse kicks the most popular boy in school! However, Yamato Kurosawa isn’t angry in the slightest— in fact, he thinks his ordinary life could use an unusual girl like Mei! He won’t take no for an answer, and soon Mei and Yamato embark on an unwanted friendship that will change both of them forever.
This will be another spoiler-free review. It’ll probably be a fairly short review too. 🙂
As y’all know I’m looking for a good romance manga to get into. I thought this one was okay. I like the main character Mei probably because I do relate to her in some ways. I’m not really sure how I feel about the other characters yet. This was definitely a quick and easy read for sure and I did like it. I’ll probably be buying the second manga in the series. 🙂
It’s all pretty cliche and cheesy, honestly. I mean I can’t say I’m surprised because I kind of expected it haha. It doesn’t bother me too much, at least not yet haha.
I feel like it’s got kind of a strange plot and the way that things happen is…strange to me. For example how their relationship happens so quickly. It’s just kind of strange how quickly everything happened so it makes me wonder what the next book is gonna be like.
I also don’t know how much I like the “heartthrob” Yamato. Some of the things he does weirds me out. Of course the lonely “weird” girl lands the most popular guy in school and she has zero trust in anyone so she doesn’t even trust him, but they’re gonna date anyway. I also don’t like how he doesn’t always listen to her when she says no to something. Hopefully, that gets better.
I don’t know why but everyone is kind of mean in this book too. Everyone has a bully or is a bully to someone…like why is this school full of mean people. No one ever seems to be nice to one another. It’s so weird. Of course Mei gets bullied a lot and she gets made fun of when she goes out with Yamato because “how could such an ugly loser date Mr. Popular”. It’s kind of unnecessary how many girls are out to ruin their newfound relationship. I guess that’s what keeps it interesting though?
Overall it’s not bad so far but it’s not my favorite. I’ll pick up the second volume because unless I hate the first one then I don’t see any reason not to keep going. It could get better or it could get worse. If it gets worse then I’ll stop buying them. This manga is more of a drama type romance. Of course it is set in high school so they are a bit childish when it comes to love haha. Not bad though! 🙂
