Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren

Rating: 4/5 Stars

Synopsis:

Whip-smart, hardworking, and on her way to an MBA, Chloe Mills has only one problem: her boss, Bennett Ryan. He’s exacting, blunt, inconsiderate—and completely irresistible. A Beautiful Bastard.

Bennett has returned to Chicago from France to take a vital role in his family’s massive media business. He never expected that the assistant who’d been helping him from abroad was the gorgeous, innocently provocative—completely infuriating—creature he now has to see every day. Despite the rumors, he’s never been one for a workplace hookup. But Chloe’s so tempting he’s willing to bend the rules—or outright smash them—if it means he can have her. All over the office.

As their appetites for one another increase to a breaking point, Bennett and Chloe must decide exactly what they’re willing to lose in order to win each other.

My Review:

So, this book started as a twilight fan fiction but was changed a lot to be published. I never read it when it was a fan fiction but that’s how it started. This will be a spoiler-free review as well. 🙂

I have been looking for romance and I just ordered some romance novels. I’m still waiting for one of them to come in but I decided I wanted an audiobook to listen to. I had to figure out what to listen to though. I stumbled across this book and decided to give it a shot. It was a short book and I figured “why not?”. I’m pretty happy that I picked this book up.

Now this book isn’t perfect. It has some small errors here and there, but I’m sure the main reason people pick this up is for the sex, right? I’ve only tried one erotica before and I DNF it. So, I was hesitant to read this, but I liked it. It’s not the most realistic thing…kind of like romance movies, but it’s not so unrealistic that I’m rolling my eyes and grinding my teeth. Does that make any sense?

I lied Chloe and Bennett’s relationship. It starts as a hate-to-love type of relationship. It kind of gave me The Hating Game vibes. I like that their relationship was really sexy but was also romantic, sweet, caring, cute, etc. I like that they both had to grow not only together but separately as Chloe is trying to figure out her career and where her life is going to go.

Like I said this isn’t some brilliant novel, but it’s fun. I had fun listening to the audiobook. I loved the steamy scenes as well as the passionate scenes. I loved their relationship and watching it change and shift over the novel. It never gave me five-star feelings, but I also didn’t feel like I wanted to give it three stars either. Like I said, I did have fun reading this book. I thought it could be quite cute, but also it was very sexy.Sometimes their lust was a little much, but it wasn’t too bad.

The plot isn’t bad but it’s not anything special either. It’s two people who work together, who then start sleeping together, who then get mixed feelings, some stuff happens, some decisions must be made, and so on. I mean I was never shocked by the plot and the twists in it. Stuff would happen and obviously you want to know what happens and how things turn out, but you also kind of have an idea of how it’s going to turn out haha. Like I said the main focus is their sex and the possibilities of them being more than fwb.

Overall I thought this was a fun mindless read. I wanted to keep listening to it, but would have to go to work. I think that’s something that’s important is that it did keep my interest. Even though the focal point is their sex I still enjoyed the characters and their relationship. I’m definitely going to keep listening to the other books in the series. I just think they’re fun and they’re really easy to get into.

I hope y’all enjoyed this quick review! Sorry if it’s a little jumbled! Happy reading!

  1. I actually read this as the pair posted it on fanfiction.net. (Still have a copy of the original too!) I’d get so excited each time it was updated. I’m happy that they were able to get it published and go on to write more books but I am partial to the original text. I totally agree with your thoughts on the book. It’s engaging but predictable. Thanks so much for sharing!
